Names

Names in the Bible often represented a person's character. It's in the Bible, Genesis 32:27-28, NKJV. "So He said to him, “What is your name?”  He said, “Jacob.” And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel;[a] for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

To honor God's name is to honor him. It's in the Bible, Exodus 3:14-15, NIV. "God said to Moses, 'I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I am has sent me to you.'" God also said to Moses, 'Say to the Israelites, "The Lord, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.' This is My name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation."

God's name is holy. It's in the Bible, Matthew 6:9, NKJV.  "In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name."

Disrespectful use of God's name results in punishment. It's in the Bible, Exodus 20:7, TLB. "You shall not use the name of Jehovah your God irreverently, nor use it to swear to a falsehood. You will not escape punishment if you do."

The name of Jesus brings faith and healing. It's in the Bible, Acts 3:16, NIV. "By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through Him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see."
